What does it mean to protect your energy?

Some of us are more sensitive to the energy around us than others. For those of us who experience these sensitivities, we find ourselves constantly absorbing the energy from people and places around us. When you surround yourself with people with negative energy, that can take a toll on your both physically and emotionally.

Why You Need to Protect Your Energy

As quickly as we are able to absorb the energy around us, it can be incredibly difficult to release that negativity. Instead, we end up carrying it with us for long periods of time. This can cause blockages in our life that keep us from feeling our best or attaining the things we want.

Energy sensitive individuals know this all too well. For that reason, they often avoid certain social situations such as parties, concerts, or work conferences. However, even if you’re energy sensitive, it is still possible for your to participate in events where there will be large crowds.

Here are some helpful tips for protecting your energy in stressful situations.

Avoid Toxic People

Many people believe when we talk about toxic people, we’re saying that someone is somehow “bad”, however, that is not necessarily the case.

The truth of the matter is that there are few people who can be classified and completely “good” or completely “bad”. Rather, we are all a complex mix of many different things.

Toxic people may not be bad, but they are bad for you. Some people are just a constant source of negative energy in your life. If suffer from these types of toxic relationships, it’s best to try to distance yourself from those individuals as much as possible.

Set Boundaries

It’s very important that you set boundaries for yourself in stressful situations. If you feel the need to leave a room or even a conversation, simply politely excuse yourself and walk away. It’s natural to constantly put the needs of others in front of your own, but for the sake of your own health, it’s also important that you know when you need to remove yourself from a situation and regroup.  

Take Some Time for Yourself

Finally, don’t forget to take some time to yourself. Selfcare is an important part of protecting your energy. Selfcare can not only be rejuvenating, it can give you the moment of stillness you need to reaffirm your heart walls and protect yourself from any negative energies you come into contact with you. The next time you find yourself in a stressful social situation, don’t worry. Simply remind yourself that you are in control of your own personal space. Don’t be afraid to walk away from people or situations that do not serve your highest good. With some diligence and a little practice, you will soon learn how to navigate the social situations that you’ve been avoiding for far too long.
